Distorted Sound Effect After Export

I have a video with some sound effects that play fine in FCP, but when I export one of the sound effects is extremely distorted. It's a bass drum and the audio level is set to 12 db.
I tried to see what would happen if I set that specific sound effect to 0 db and it played fine after export, but I want it much louder. When I play the original sound effect in quicktime and turn the volume up it sounds fine. Is there a reason why this specific sound effect becomes distorted after export? And why does it play fine in FCP?
Thanks.

What kind of gear do you use to cut this? What kind of use is being made of the project you deliver? What are your delivery specifications? What FCP version to you run?

That's not a bad list of questions for starters....

What are your audio meters telling you in fcp? what audio specific software have you got?
