TIFF images does not match timeline (DVCPro HD 720P50 PAL)
on Oct 28, 2013 at 9:34:25 am

Hi all gurus out there,

I have a problem that I hope you can help me with.

On a 720P50 DVCPro HD timeline (960x720) I have a bunch of TIFFs that I wish to put on the timeline. However, the do not cover the canvas. Fair enough, all the TIFFs are exported from a PPT and are 1170x810 pixels in size.

After trying to scale to virtually any size that I can think of (1280x720, 960x720, 1920x1080) it still does not cover the canvas...

What am I missing here? FCP seems to "fit" the image" and sure, for sume of the sizes, I can zoom the TIFF to 100 %, covering all the canvas, but the text/graphics in the TIFF goes outside the canvas.

I'm not sure what to do? Should I change my timeline to 1280x720 ProRes (having to re-render my entire sequence) and then scale all the TIFFs to 1280x720?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

Niklas

If the aspect ratio of these TIFFs is NOT 16x9, you will lose portions of the images if you scale them to fit the screen. It's unavoidable: you'll either cut off the sides, or you'll cut off the top & bottom. If you fit the entire image into the screen, it will either look too narrow or too squat.

You have to decide how to handle the images. You may have to make them over again in 16x9. If they CAN'T be re-made as 16x9 images with all important graphics within Title Safe, then you may want to consider putting them over a background.

first scale your tiffs. All must be RGB 8bit, 1920x1080 size, 72 dpi. You should have no problems importing them in your 16:9 DVCPro timeline.

cheers
