How to extract usable content from authored DVD
on Oct 25, 2013 at 4:43:51 pm

I'm trying to extract usable content from an authored/formatted DVD, which has files in it with names such as video_ts.bup, .vob, .ifo, Is it possible to get such content into a FCP7 sequence, and if not is there an easy way to convert it into more manageable formats like Quicktime?
Any tips on this would be very much appreciated.
Neil

You can throw the VOB files on the timeline in FCP but you have to render, or use mpeg streamclip to transfer the VOB's in the first place.

[Shane Ross] "MPEG STREAMCLIP"

Hand Brake works surprisingly well.

But doesn't encode to anything that FCP can edit. It doesn't do ProRes or any other FCP codec. It rips to Apple TV and other consumer viewing formats. GREAT for that though.

I ended up using MPEG Streamclip for this, which worked well. Thanks Shane and everyone for the feedback.
