Fixing imported XML Subtitles
on Sep 2, 2013 at 3:20:46 pm

Hi Everybody,

Following issue, which I wonder, if there is a short fix for:
Our client send us subs in Hebrew, Arabic and English, as XML to ad to our finished HD Film.
Unfortunately, the subs are created in a subtitle program and come into final cut not in the right position (x and y using sub pixels which is not good for FCP) and wrong font size and line distance.
Since it is quiet an amount of subs, I do not want to go title by title to fix it (about 100 Text blocks for 3 different languages). Is there some so of short cut to do it?
If I copy clip attributes, it has no influence on the text generator controls and therefor does not copy those values.

Happy for any ideas floating around.

Thanx.

All the parameters you want to adjust are changeable at the XML level. How are they generating the XML and why can't they get it right in the first place. X, Y position info should be correct.

There have been numerous posts over the years about adjusting XML values so it might be worth a forum search as there may be better browsers or word processors to find & replace specific values in an XML. Once it is in FCP it can't be easily changed so you need to change before import.

Title Exchange Pro is an XML based app that can re-format FCP titles.

in demo mode you can process up to 50 titles at a time

I don't seem to figure out in the manual, how I can open an XML file with the Title exchange Pro and globally change settings for all subs at once, e.g. size and placement.
Any idea how that works?

Thanx.

yes, but this is from memory

first you create a subtitle in the style of your choice in the right sort of sequence in FCP.
you export an XML of that, and put in the "templates" location that TEP references.

in TEP there's a window where you set up the appropriate "input" format, and the appropriate "output" format.

and somewhere long the line you point TEP at the template you have created.
sorry i cant be more specific, it's been awhile since i used it.
