Exporting hour and a half project for a DVD
on Jul 12, 2013 at 1:54:13 am

I have a 90 minute documentary that needs to be exported and converted into a DVD. What is the best suggested settings for the export? I am using FCP7 and the footage was shot on 1920 x 1080. Many thanks!

The answer is in the manual (very detailed). Export a reference movie drop that file in Compressor and choose a preset for DVD.

This tutorial should help with settings. (Slightly dated, but still good info)

Thanks guys. Ken Stone's instructions look to be very thorough. I will look into using Compressor, but have not used it much in the past. I typically export shorter (3 - 5 minute projects) as a MPEG4, H264, and pump the bit rate to 5,000 and have great results with that method. Would that method still work well on a 90 minute piece, then drop the file into iDVD?

In a word, no.

The DVD technical specification calls for MPEG 2, not MPEG 4. You should find thorough instructions for creating this.

Well, then you'll be disappointed to learn that I am now with KGAN-TV (Ch2, CBS). But I still appreciate the kind remarks.

Like your family, Cedar Rapids is home to me.
