Freaky Sequence issue
on Jun 13, 2013 at 7:35:10 pm

I've never seen this one before!

Somehow I mistakenly changed the name of my current sequence to the name of one of my clips.
Not sure how it happened.

Now the weird thing: Every clip in the sequence has changed to be the same as the wrongly named sequence. So the sequence and every single clip have the same name.

I tried
• Copying and pasting all the clips into a new sequence with the same settings
• restarting the computer
• Changing the name of the sequence
• I tried putting a new clip in, it looks fine, it's the proper name of the clip.

I really don't want to go back to my previous save sequence—a whole day's work—and redo 8 hours of work. And it makes me nervous to rely on this wonky-named sequence (even if everything seems to be working on it otherwise).

Any ideas????
Huge deadline for tomorrow morning!
Thanks for any responses!!!!

Now I'll just add that I went to the autosave vault and all recent autosaved versions do the same thing.
The main working sequence automatically changes its name to one of the other files in the project window. And there do seem to be problems with the timeline (like one of the audio tracks keeps going way off sync.)

That was a know bug with FCP 7 up to 7.0.2. Solved..fixed...with 7.0.3. What version are you running?

Hi Shane.

I just read some of those forum postings about it.

I recently installed so I'm 7.0.
I tried to use software update to go to 7.3, but FCP didn't show up in my update window.
Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

OK...I updated to 7.0.3 and restarted.

I open the project and the timeline and clips still has the wrong name.
Can I recover this one, or do I need to re-build it from my last version (8 hours of work ago)?

Thanks, Shane!!!!

Well, sure, they won't revert back. But make a new sequence, cut a clip into it to get the right settings. Then delete it, and copy and paste the clips in the old sequence into this one.

Hi Shane.

Just did exactly that.
Clip names are still the wonky name of the old sequence.

Thoughts???

None. Sorry. From now on this won't happen, but how to fix it when it did? Hmmm...

Do those clip names show up like that in an EDL or XML?

Okay...the xml didn't work.

But the EDL did.
But all the media is offline.
So then I just have to manually reconnect all the media???

Thanks again Shane!!!!!

Wait...why are you reconnecting? You didn't mention that the clips were offline, did you?

When I did an XML export, then imported the XML into a new project, the timeline that came up had all the clips offline. The original timeline is all connected fine.

But at least the clip names are correct.
But then when I try to reconnect the media, I get wonky error messages, but I click "ok" anyhow.
Sometimes it reconnects properly, and other times it comes in out of sync.

Should I just rebuild the @#$@ timeline to be safe?
Proabably 2 hours work. Deadline: Project due tomorrow morning.Yow!

What aspects of this project are due? The final video? Or is an EDL or XML needed too?

Then there is nothing to worry about. Export the video...you are fine.

Except the old sequence (with the wrong names) was incorrect and wonky.

And the new XML export/import sequence has offline media, and doen't seem to want to reconnect properly.

Make sense?

[Daniel Schultz] "Except the old sequence (with the wrong names) was incorrect and wonky."

In what way?

[Daniel Schultz] "

Why are you doing this?

[Daniel Schultz] "Make sense?"

WHy it doesn't work? yes. Why you are doing it...no.

I am 95% finished with this job that needs to be done tomorrow.
THat's when the sequence naming bug happened.
So I just want to get back to where I was a few hours ago before this bug happened so I can finish the job and deliver it.

The question is:
1. Do I try to make it work with the XML timeline that seems to be problematic?
2. Or just rebuild the timline to where I was earlier in the day, then finish off the job.

Yes???

Okay...I might have solved it.

I went to the autosave vault and got a recent version, opened the timeline (that was named wrong, but the clips are named correctly), then copy and pasted clips into a new timeline with correct settings.

So far so good!!

Thanks for your patience, Shane!
