Compressor questions
on Jun 3, 2013 at 8:33:42 pm

I bought a mac pro in January and migrated my software; fcp, etc. from my macbookpro.

The first time I tried to use compressor after the migration it gave 'no read or right' errors. I worked around by using quicktime. Today I tried again and received the same message so I checked my drives and found the system was the only one with read/right permissions. I changed the admin to this and tried again. Same errors on compressor.

I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Using version 3.05

Migrating the Final Cut Studio apps won't work. There are too many supporting files it installs throughout the system that Migrating doesn't get. You need to install the apps from the original DVDs.

You won't lose anything. Make sure you run the system update too, to get fully current.

Thanks again, Shane. Before I get started, my discs are an upgrade from previous. Since I haven't done this in awhile, will that matter? Should I do a complete install with all the discs?

Thanks.

Just have the original serial number handy. Install the upgrade, it will ask for that number/

Shane, install won't work due to FPS being version 6.06. Error says it no longer supports power pc's, which I no longer have. Working with a mac pro, 8 core with 36gb of ram. Any way to work around this?

Thanks.

You are trying to install FCP 6...FCS2...onto a NEW computer, running MacOS 10.8, Mountain Lion...right?

FCP 7 (4 years old) isn't supported on that OS (meaning Apple didn't test it to make sure it works, and plug any bugs)...they certainly didn't take into account the 6 year old FCS 2. The only way to install that onto your computer is to use Pacifist to hack things a bit.

Bummer. It's actually a refurb from mid-2010 running lion, not mountain lion. Don't imagine I'll find any hackers here, in the middle of the Caribbean. :{

Ah...Lion is a tad easier. If you have a Snow Leopard installer, install ROSETTA from that (do a Custome Install). Then the FCS2 installer will work fine.

Mountain Lion is the one that requires Pacifist.

Great. So I dig out my Snow Leopard, look for rosetta installer, install it on the lion with a custom install, then install FCS2, right? Sorry. Getting older by the minute. :}

Did the install but compressor still doesn't work. Same message about the read/wright error. Any thoughts?

Here's an interesting question which may answer why compressor keeps coming up with 'no read/write' permissions. I checked my internal drive and discovered that the "admin" name on the drive has changed to "wheel". Who, or why that happened remains a mystery. The question is, how can I change it back? I fear if I start messing with the + and - on the account information I may screw up the whole drive and lose access. Again, any suggestions? Thanks.

Guess I'm trying to beat a dead horse on this but still can't get it to work. Exporting project from fcp to compressor I get the 'you don't have permission to write to disk' error. Exporting as quicktime the file has no extension (.mov) in the finder. But it does when I view the 'save as' box. I'm trying to make a DVD. So when I try to import the quicktime into DVDSP I get 'not acceptable format' error. Went to digital rebellion and downloaded their compressor repair. Still having problems. Did a complete re-install of FCS also. I sent a similar message to DR but am going nutz trying to figure this out. Thanks.
