Converting MTS files for use in Final Cut Pro HD 4.5
on Jun 2, 2013 at 6:50:05 pm

I have AVC HD footage shot on a Panasonic AG HMC40 using a 32gb SDHC card. I am using Final Cut HD 4.5 on a Macbook Pro v. 10.6.8. I need to convert the .mts files into a useable format. I have already copied the Private folder from the SDHC card onto my external hard drive. I have downloaded MPEG Streamclip, but when I try to open one of the .mts files, it says "File open error: unrecognized file type." When I push "continue anyway", it seems I can only see the audio, nd when I try to ask it to export to another file format (I am trying to convert to DVCPro HD) it says "Error: can't read frame size" and when I try to convert it to MPEG, it says it can't find the first frame.
What do I need to do in order to work with this material?
Thanks for your help.

It's getting worse and worse. It's tough enough trying to get it to work on FCP 5.1. FCP 4.5? You'll be lucky if this will work.

You need CLIPWRAP2, and use it to convert the footage to DVCPRO HD. That is the only way to do this on that old of software.

I hope it works. There's a demo of ClipWrap2, so you can test it.
