Our editor lives in Chicago and has Final Cut 6. We would like to send him via Dropbox compressed video from our shoots, have him do done edits and then send us the project or EDL or whatever we need to apply his edits to the uncompressed source video on our local drive here in Florida. We have FC 7. We would tweak edits and probably go back and forth with the edit data while we work through to finalize all cuts . We do not meccissarily need to include effects but if we can, all the better.
Can anyone explain if there is a workflow that would allow us to do this? Is there a step by step somewhere or a YouTube that would help?
Im just trying to set things up, we have only one efitor hired thus far. Any help greatly appreciated!
Don't. It's more pain than it's worth. Just dealing with the FCP6/FCP 7 will be pain enough. Trying to get offline media that contains timecode and reel numbers to the original and then needing to relink every time you send a project back and forth...you'll spend a lot of time just relinking.
Ship a drive with the media. A clone of the original, same name and everything. And then send back and forth XMLs of the cut. Make sure that they are XML Version 4...FCP 6 doesn't recognize XML v5 that FCP 7 defaults to exporting...make sure it is XML v4.
