Maintaing aspect ratio in Offline editing
on Apr 17, 2013 at 4:08:56 pm

Hello,

I have just finished shooting a short film with the Arri Alexa into the Prores 4444 codec.
I am using FCP 7 to edit but want to convert the footage into a more managable data size.

I have used the media manager in FCP to convert my 4444 files to a 422 Proxy. This worked well
enough but when it was done converting all the footage I realized that the aspect ratio was also
changed.
The new aspect ratio cuts out a lot of the frame that I would need to see in order to edit properly.
Is there a way to maintain the aspect ratio of the original 4444 files I shot in while still
being able to edit offline?

Thank you

Ryan

If you shot 1920x1080 ProRes 4444...converting to ProRes Proxy should also be 1920x1080. The frame size should be exactly the same.

What are the dimensions of your Proxy footage?

Or are you shooting 2K? 4K?
