Final Cut iPhone Rendering
on Apr 8, 2013 at 11:07:22 pm

Hello everyone, I just completed working on my music video that I shot with my iPhone 5 and when I rendered it out (using H.246) the scenes with fast movement had these lines across. It didn't show up in the viewer or anything while editing. It only occurred after it was rendered into a movie file. I'm guessing I need to change some settings or something.

Please let me know what I have to do ASAP. Need to upload this video tonight!

Are your sequence settings 1080i? meaning Interlaced?

did you convert the iphone video to somethng better for editing, like proRes?

My render settings are 1080i. I didn't convert any of the footage. It was shot with the iPhone 5. All the rest of the scenes are perfect. There's just about 3 or 4 short shots that have those lines.

Also when I preview it on my mac (highlight and hit spacebar) the lines dont show

Make the sequence Settings ProRes. Change the Field Dominance to NONE...rerender.

Next time, you need to convert you iPhone video to ProRes. FCP has issues with non-editig codecs like the iPhone shoots. Use Compressor to convert to ProRes.

"Make the sequence Settings ProRes. Change the Field Dominance to NONE...rerender."

Is all of this done through Compressor?

I've never done any of this before. I'm also using Final Cut 6.

Also thank you so much for your responses.

Nevermind I think I found it. Went to sequence, changed the Field Dominance to none and I selected Apple Pro Res 422(HQ). Is this all I had to do in Final Cut Pro?

Not to HQ...that's overkill. Just ProRes 422. And yes, that's where you do it. This is a quick POTENTIAL fix. It works most of the time. Best to convert the footage all to PRoRes...but this is a decent band aid.
