Audio Mixer Dual-Mono Question
on Apr 1, 2013 at 6:39:07 pm

Audio mixer question, FCP 7. Dual mono output, let's say I have A1 assigned to output 1 and A2-4 assigned to output 2. Is there a way to adjust everything in output 2 using only one slider in the mixer? Right now my best solution is lassoing A2-4 in the timeline and useing control +/-. Thanks.

If you pan each audio channel to zero, it is mono...

All my source material is already dual mono. I just need to be able to adjust all my tracks that I assign to channel 2 as easily as possible. For instance, I have a reporter's voice track on Ch. 1, and all the rest of my audio tracks (nat sounds, sound bites, etc) going into Ch. 2. I want to be able to adjust Ch. 2 as easily as possible, preferably in the Audio Mixer.

no, sadly you can not do that in FCP.

although... do you have 2 master faders in the audio mix tool?
you might be able to work with those.

No, just one master fader, and individual faders for each track. Is there a way to get a second master?

the only thing i could think of would be to set your sequence to dual mono rather than stereo,
but you say you have done that already.

a clunky workaround would be to nest the A2 clips, then ride levels on the nest,
and jump into it when you need to re-ballance those clips.

perhaps this is a job or Soundtrack Pro?

Yes, sadly you cannot sub-group tracks to a submaster fade. FCP is a so-so video editing application, and a poor audio mixing solution.

hi all...

....coming in late on this discussion.
hope you dont mind....

I have a similar thing...need dual mono output.

I have, as you all suggest, made all the tracks to pan 0 by marque selecting them all, and Modify-Audio-Pan Center.
I have audio on 5 tracks altogether.
some clips are mono some stereo

A. question - 2 experiments:

1. all tracks panned to 0
exported qtconv 'stereo' - got 2 audio tracks (stereo pair) panned both to left (-1,) why is that? But can hear them in both headphone sides, L and R

2. all tracks panned to 0
exported qtconv 'mono' - got 1 audio track, but can hear in both headphone sides L and R.

so are either of these really dual mono?
if not, how can one export and get dual mono?

B. other questions:
- how does one assign as mentioned above some tracks to ch1 and some to ch2? ( I just see many tracks. One track has the a1 on it and other track has the a2 on it. the rest of the tracks have neither. Do those a1 and a2 tabs do anything in this case?

- Is it advisable to assign tracks to channels if you are ending up w dual mono - which means the same exact thing in both sides, right?

Thanks so much anyone who is willing to answer these question.
Warmly,
Hope
