Codec could not be opened-avid clip
on Mar 27, 2013 at 3:28:36 am

Hi, I'm having another codec problem. This is from the past. I am unable to open a .mov clip that I originally created in avid (not sure what version).

I pulled the clip into an FCP project many years ago, and it was watchable then. The project was last modified in 2008. Since then I have updated to FCP 6 and and to OS 10.5.8 and come to think of it, I've changed computers (mac quadcore now).

When I look for codec info in quicktime, it's just gobbledygook. I'm guessing I need an older avid codec, but what? And where would I find it?

I saw an earlier post on this topic recommending mediainfo to analyze files, but alas, the current version in the mac app store requires OS 10.6 or later. Any ideas, thoughts on solving the puzzle of the ancient file? Thanks!

Downloaded the codecs you linked to, but no change.

Did you restart the computer?

Thanks for the quick response.

I looked at the file in quicktime, did a restart, looked at it again in both QT and FCP. Still no picture. Now the QT info window says avid dv codec under format--I think when I initially looked at it, the format was still gobbledygook. Maybe I'll try another restart and cross my fingers this time. I have QT 7.7--don't know if this might make a difference.
