Subtitle Export from FCP
on Mar 14, 2013 at 6:43:13 pm

Hallo Everybody,

following Problem: In a theatre show that I edited a while ago, I added subtitles in English - in a classic way: I simply generated Text Clips, that I put above the Video Track.
Now, the production needs a Word Doc with all the subs in one text. I translated it back than on fly, while creating the subs, so there's only the FCP Project where all of them are there.
It's quiet a lot 130 Text Clips.
The long way, of course, is to open each Text Clip and Copy/Paste the text into a WORD Doc.
But it will eat some time.
Anybody has an idea, how I can do it faster? E.g. like with markers, which you can export at once as text file.

Thanx a lot in advance!

Title Exchange Pro from Spherico Filmtools

with this, you export an XML fro FCP,
then covert it to any one of many many formats in TXP
none are specifically simple word docs,
but many can be opened into word.

a more manual way would be to edit the XML file yourself.
copy paste your subtitle track into a a new FCP sequence and export an XML

might be a good idea to also copy / paste a single subtitle, or maybe two, into another new sequence and export an XML from that.
much simpler to analyse.

open the XML into a text editor
then figure out what is redundant info , and do a find and delete, or find and replace for those terms.
whittling it down to just the text, and maybe the TC

Thanx a lot Nick.
I will try it right away. I thought already something with XML might work.
What exactly you need then the Title Exchange Pro from Spherico Filmtools for, that you mentioned?

I exported the XML, but then I get off course a salad of the subs text being mixed up with all the code info about the video values...a huge file.
Any way to separate the actual text from all this source code info?

Thanx.

well i own TXP, so i haven't dealt with XMLs in this way!

but like i said, first put the subs in their own sequence, so you don't get too much unneeded info in ht XML.
then, as all the info re the text generators would be identical for each one other than the actual text, i was thinking you could do a find all and delete for all the code you DONT want
