Transparent Illustrator file for FCP

The client uses Illustrator. What instructions do I give him
to send me the logo with a transparent background?

Save as 32-bit with alpha channel. and all layers saved .psd, .tga. .tif or .png will work as file extensions.

Don't forget that Illustrator documents are primarily vector in nature. If you convert them to bitmap images for FCP, they won't be vector any more.

The primary virtue of a vector image is that it can be scaled up and maintain sharp edges. You'll lose that ability.

Thanks, Dave. Did not know that about vectors.
I had the client save as png and select transparent
background. Looks OK and edges are OK. Is there
a way to save with even better edges and transparent
background?

I prefer targa or tif for this, but .PSD will also work.

If the graphics will remain static -- or at least not scaled beyond 100% -- PNG's with an alpha channel are fine.
