importing MXF files to FCP 6
on Feb 13, 2013 at 11:36:09 am

I am transferring MXF files shot on a Canon C300 to FCP 6.06 using log and transfer.

Most of the files have gone though to FCP fine, however 3 larger files 2gb, 14gb and 19gb files have not transferred. (although a large 14gb fine has) The status in the log and transfer window shows an exclamation mark with 'Error unknown' .

The files will play OK in the Log and Transfer viewer window and seem to be OK.

Does anyone know what this can be?

Many thanks Rupert

My only thought is that the C300 camera and MXF format came out years after FCP 6.0.6 did...and that proper support for that camera can only be had with FCP 7.

You can try to download the Canon XF Utility and see if you can use that to convert the files to ProRes:

Or get the Calibrated MXF plugin to allow FCP to see and read the MXF files natively...and then convert those to ProRes. calibratedsoftware.com

Thanks for the swift response.

I managed to resolve things by trying the transfer on a different machine, but using the same plug in . For some reason it worked this time but with no reason why it didn't work the first time. Still not complaining...now I can start editing!
