18hrs sony fs100 interview footage - digital management issues!

this weekend, i have a three camera interview shoot. (2 fs100s + sony A77)

each camera will generate approximately 6 hours of footage. (6 x 1hr interviews)

3 cameras x 6hr footage will generate = approx 18 hours of footage!

i am editing with fcp7.

using clipwrap to prores LT will take approx how long?

(fcp7 doesn't offer prores LT as an option but clipwrap does)

and how large will 18 hrs of prores LT be? 1tb? 2tb?

(what size hard drive do i need to store/work with all this footage?)

any and all thoughts are appreciated.

be well.

Not familiar with Clipwrap times, but this is quite useful for calculating file sizes with various codecs:

[Rob Katz] "using clipwrap to prores LT will take approx how long?"

Depends on the computer and processors involved. But on my MacBook Pro laptop, 2.3Ghz i7 with 16GB of RAM, a 19 second clip took 14 seconds to convert to ProRes LT. So faster than real time. 18 hours might take me 15 hours. Your machine might take less time, might take more.

[Rob Katz] "and how large will 18 hrs of prores LT be? 1tb? 2tb?"

What frame size and frame rate? Those are huge factors. 1920x1080 30fps will take 1TB. 966.1Gb to be exact. But you want at least 1.2TB so you have padding. You need 10-15% of the drive to be empty for good performance.

[Rob Katz] "(what size hard drive do i need to store/work with all this footage?)"

Get a 2TB drive to be safe.

[Rob Katz] "(fcp7 doesn't offer prores LT as an option but clipwrap does)"
If Clipwrap offers ProresLT, is because FC offers it.
Without FC, Clipwrap could not export to ProresLT.
Have a look in the L&T options and set ProresLT the format for transcoding.

In clip wrap just use the rewrap instead of choosing a codec, it will be almost instant and will use almost the same amount of data that the native avchd footage had, FCP reads it and it will save you time and money. I use it all the time it just renders the file in a .mov.
