importing MOV files crashes FCP
on Jan 22, 2013 at 6:14:58 pm

On deadline to get some videos edited and posted online. One MAJOR problem. We shot on Sony cameras and are trying to import MTS files as MOV files to edit in FCP. Keeps crashing. Again, and again. The files are up to 130 min long. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Use this workflow:

http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1

This is how you import pretty much every tapeless format into FCP. And where Log and Transfer fails, you have alternatives. If it won't work, then you need to use ClipWrap2 to convert the files to ProRes 422. "MOV" really means nothing more than "A Quicktime Movie." You need to make sure you have the right codec.

But follow the tutorial first...that's the best way to work with tapeless media in FCP.

Shane,

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. I ended up getting a 3TB external hard drive with Thunderbolt and with the right codec, it's working.

Thanks again,
Paul
