FCP X importing/Exporting
on Jan 11, 2013 at 4:59:39 pm

I'm evaluating the FCP X trial on a 2010 MBP 17 in.

Can I import footage from an SD card without having to copy the files from the card onto a separate hard drive? I'm trying to save time for quick turn around breaking news. I'm connecting the SD card to express card slot with an adapter. My cam is a Sony NX5U with AVCHD files. I can save the project file to a separate FW GRaid but don't want to have to copy video files to it initially.

When exporting, do I have to buy the compressor app or is there a built in QT exporter - I didn't see one.

Thanks!

MBP I7 2.66, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, FCS 3, OS 10.6.4, 27in Apple Cinema display, G-Raid 4TB Raid 0, Sonnet Tempo Express Card

Using the card as your scratch drive sounds scary and I don't know that it has the thru-put to really work well that way.
