Compressing 40 minute video to under 2GB!?!
on Dec 24, 2012 at 2:05:35 am

So I've just recently wrapped up with a documentary that runs a little under 40 minutes.

Quick specs:

1920x1080
24fps
proRes (LT) - FCP seq. settings

I usually use MPEG stream clip for compressing videos for internet/DVD, but for a certain site for film festivals I have to get this video to under 2GB. Generally, I'll export a QT movie and bring that into MPEG S.C. and just export using h.264 which usually decreases size giving me the ability to upload online (youtube, vimeo) However, the QT movie out of FCP is about 21 GB.

Is it even possible to get this under 2GB without compromising video quality? If so, I'd love some help!

Any advice would be great!

Thank you!

You should try Compressor. You will need to play with your bit rate.

You can try HandBrake.
Just need to set the file size you want and the application will export an x264 with the optimal relation size/quality.

Like Raf said, Looks is awesome...and it has a TON more functionality than just what you're looking for. Amazing plug-in that I use a lot. Well worth the cost. You also get the "Misfire" set of plugs with it that does all the film stuff you'd need!
