Best Frame Offset for using Inbuilt Audio with FCP
on Dec 12, 2012 at 8:11:53 pm

Hi guys,
I'm editing on FCP 7 using the inbuilt audio, and watching video on my computer... no external decks, monitoring, etc... just speakers plugged into my headphone port.
What frame offset should I be using? I was on 0... and still felt that the video might be a bit behind the audio... but it won't accept a negative value for Frame Offset.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Ben

I wonder if frame offset applies to this situation.
Do you notice any difference when you set it to, say 30?

Oh, I haven't tried that, but I certainly can. Working with 24 p pro res, would i still use 30, or 24? Can't say I understand why your suggestion would help, but I thank you for it!

It's just to verify if the frame offset is influencing the latency at all in your setup.
When you are using built-in outputs FCP should adjust this automatically.
If you see no difference with the offset to 30 (which is max) compared to 0 then you know you have to look
elsewhere for an explanation.
