5DtoRGB transcoded clips noticeably darker/contrastier than original H264s

Hello-

Been posting recently about 5DtoRGB in this forum but thought I'd start up a new one.

Recently bought 5DtoRGB Batch and am overall happy with app but noticed that 5DtoRGB transcoded clips (Canon EOS HDSLR h264 originals) display significantly darker and contrastier in FCP7 than originals do in Quicktime app, and certainly more than same clips transcoded with FCP7's own Log & Transfer tool do.

Any idea why? Tweaking settings help?

Original clips are Canon EOS HDSLR original (5D markii & T3i.) In 5DtoRGB, been transcoding to APR422 LT, keeping source frame rate, with 709/broadcast range matrix settings (have varied bet/ 601/709/broadcast but haven't noticed the difference.) Left Chroma Mode default, and Post Processing disables. Should I try "full range" decoding matrix?

Manual says something about "Gamma Flagging" and "Bake Gamma Correction" - that it can effect darkness/lightness - but can't find those functions in app interface. Only see a "Gamma Correction" setting which asks for a numerical value. I've just left it at 1.0, the default value.

I understand that display is a fraught issue, contingent on computer monitors as opposed to tv/video monitors. But project is web-only and so really only lives on computer monitors.

Thanks, Nick.

"Gamma 1.0" shouldn't change the original.
Have a look to QT.7 Preferences, and see is is checked the window "Allow Final Cut Pro Color Compatibility". In case is checked, uncheck it.
You haven't mentioned your System, so in case you don't have QT.7 installed, install it.

Many thanks Rafael.
Yes, running FCP7.
Took a look around but couldn't find "Allow Final Cut Pro Color Compatibility"
Exactly where would I find it?
Nick.

QT Player (QT7) Preferences > General.
