Selecting audio tracks problem.
on Nov 20, 2012 at 1:33:29 am

Hello there,
I have a bizarre account in the timeline.

I'm currently cutting a feature length film, now on the last stages.
Recently we noticed that by selecting large areas in the timeline there are also other parts of the sequence that get selected.

For example, I'm selecting an audio portion from minute 30 to minute 33 down the timeline. Then outside the boundaries of my selection there are other random pieces of audio clips selected as well.

There are no links between my selection and the other random selected clips.

I have tried all the standard procedures for troubleshooting. (trash preferences, new sequences, move sequences to new projects, using other machines, etc, etc.

My current system is a 2.66 Quadcore, running 10.6.8, FCP 7.0.3.
The media used in the project is Apple ProRes422 1920x1080 23.98.

Any suggestions are gratefully appreciated.
Regards,

You need to either link or unlink your audio.

There's an option to turn off linked selection in the timeline. Upper left of the timeline, there are 3 buttons on by default. One of those.

I guess I forgot to mention that I have checked for linking of tracks, but there are not link.
Here is a sample image of the timeline.

I selected the last portion on the back end and there you see it couple of early audio track get selected.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

i've never seen anything like that before,
and it seems like you have tried all the usual fixes.

maybe an alternative method for selecting is in order.
try just using in / out points, and auto-select buttons to define which tracks you want.

Hi

I'm experiencing the same problem.

I tried moving the unwanted downstream selections to a different audio track on the timeline.

Which stopped them being selected with the upstream forward tracks selection but then final cut decided to select other downstream clips instead. They seem to be random, there's no apparent correlation with the upstream footage in any way.

I'm also working on a feature length documentary.

I'm wondering if you done any media management before this problem started?
