Footage Jumps When Lower Third Added
on Nov 7, 2012 at 3:07:41 am

Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem when inserting lower thirds exported from AE into FCP. Basically the footage zooms in a tiny bit and loses quality as soon as the graphic comes in and the opposite happens when it comes out. Both the footage and the graphic are 1920x1080, 25p, square pixels. There's no field dominance on the footage but I've noticed that even though I export the graphic from AE with no dominance, when I bring it into FCP it has upper field dominance. I am exporting the graphic using the animation preset at 100% quality. Has anyone ever experienced a problem similar to this or knows a fix? Thanks in advance.

Matt

[Matt Hargrave] "I've noticed that even though I export the graphic from AE with no dominance, when I bring it into FCP it has upper field dominance."
So go to FCs Browser and change the field order to NONE.

Make sure as well that when you drop the graphics on the time line, the value of "Center" (x,y) are integer and have no fractions.

Yes, I've tried resetting the field dominance to "None" but it doesn't help. Any idea why it might come in as "Upper" even though I export it as "None"?

Both x and y are set to 0.

After changing the field dominance to NONE, you need to lie the graphic again in the time-line.
Changes in the Browser do not affect the stuff that was already in the sequence.

I tried that too. I also tried reconnecting the media with no luck.

Forgot to tell you: Export Prores 444 (Millions +) instead of Animation.
You shouldn't have field dominance problem with that codec because should have a proper field order flag.

I never really found out why this was happening but found a work around. When I export it to a QT, then run it through Compressor to a ProRes 422 it looks fine. No idea why but it works.
