Converting and editing GoPro 1080 footage in FCP
on Oct 26, 2012 at 10:04:25 pm

OSX.6.8, FCP 6.0.6: Importing underwater GoPro 1080. Using MPEG Streamclip to convert to Apple ProRez 422 for editing. Eventual results to be 960x540 WMV files. When I create the .mov files at full size they appear without any problems in Quicktime. When I import them into FCP there is definite horizontal banding in the image. I have tried both the HQ and the lower data rate versions of ProRez 422 with no visible difference. I have tried exporting to the wmv files (flip4mac - I have done this successfully many times before) in case I was just seeing a scaling issue on the FCP viewer and canvas windows but that is not the case. The wmv files have the same banding. The original files are quite green due to being shot underwater so I also modified the saturation of the files on conversion in Streamclip but that also had no impact.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of the solution? Thanks
