FCP 7 Requirement
on Oct 4, 2012 at 5:21:14 pm

Dear All,

I am using full HD editing and it take much time to export a clip. So can anyone please update me the recommended hardware requirement for both imac with i7 processor and mac pro with dual quad core xeon processor.

Hi, Goutom:
Have you converted the material to Prores? Maybe you are editing H.264 or other no editing codec. You need to give more details.

Hi Daniel,

Nope. I use mp4, mov and also wmv in timeline. Final output is in h.264.

[Goutom Ain] "I use mp4, mov and also wmv in timeline"

There's your problem. FCP is built for editing using codecs in a mov wrapper. Even then, the contents inside the mov need to be compatible. Generally people convert everything to ProRes 422 before editing. Doing that ensures good performance.

Like Daniel said - you need to provide more information. What codec are the mov files you're using? (You can find out by opening them in QuickTime and pressing 'Cmd+i' for 'Info'.

I would recomend converting everthing to prores.

With flip for mac you can convert the wmv and with mpge Streamclip you can convert the mp4.

You can also watch Shane tutorial for Tapeless Workflow

Depends on what is your final destination is the format of prores that you need but HQ is probably too much, if only web then I would go with LT.

Good Luck. :)
