Can FCP 7.0.3 edit 4k material? I've got a MAC PRO 3.0 GFX card ATI 4870

Thanks

Well...yes, if you convert to ProRes and scale to 2K for editing. Then conform to 4K in the color correction phase...in Color or Resolve.

Hi,

I found this thread by googling 4K and FCP7 because I wanted to know more about it.

In sequence settings I can change a custom aspect ratio to size 4096x2160 (4K) and use compressor of prores4444 or 422hq and edit away...

So why do people say FCP7 can't edit in 4k?

Exactly, why are people saying you can't finish 4K in FPC7? ... I have a 2015 Mac Pro running the latest OSX and I can export 4K easily. I have Premiere but I still LOVE FCP7 better. I'll use it until they pry it from my dying hands. lol

Well, I was saying so because at the time, what, 2012? At that time I was having issues finishing in 4K. Back then the 4K options were few, and I had a Red project that gave me headaches, that, when I went to Resolve, were better. Finishing wise. Perhaps better workflows have been made...forum help can get out of date.

Shane only a codec conversion is needed (Pro Res 444 or 422 HQ), in terms of resolution FCP 7 can handle 4K. Correct me if I'm wrong.

can you monitor in 4K through hardware I/O? I think not with FCP7?

Yes...with AJA Io4K, BlackMagic Extreme 4K. But finding a 4K monitor...that's tricky. I guess 4K TVs are more prevalent, so that might work.

We're in the CION market and I downloaded these yesterday. (Big download).

They played, shuttled and trimmed just fine. I'm on an older silver Mac Pro. Dual Xeon Processors and Apple raid. They also played well in Premiere Pro.
