FCP on OSX Lion - the ongoing story, a conundrum

MacPro 1,1 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core, Mac OS Lion 10.7.4

I'm struggling to get FCP to work. Will launch but, as soon as I drop any video (various codecs - ProRes, HDV 1080i, Pal 8 bit, DV Pal) onto the timeline it crashes. With Pro Maintenance Tools, I've trashed preferences, run Housekeeper, Media Salvage, Plugin Manager and all the others; have uninstalled (properly) and reinstalled, clean-installed and updated but still it crashes.

PMT's Crash Analyzer says 'Audio Crash' and that the relevant line on the report is:

1 com.apple.QuickTimeComponents.component 0x31ed59a4 CopyAndExpandStreamLayout + 48

I have disabled all the plugins. Anyone have any idea???

Many thanks

It sounds as if you recently changed your OS to Lion. Did you do an update, or did you do a Clean Install?

The Clean Install option is far more time-consuming, but it eliminates potential OS problems.

I recommend that you read David Roth Weiss' "Getting Ready For Lion" FCP tutorial here on the COW. He outlines the basic procedure to follow.

Many thanks. I'll do that.
