I goofed - Exporting 1920 x 1080
on Jul 28, 2012 at 1:56:03 am

So I have a lot of 1920 x 1080 clips (probably around 100 or so). Somewhere along the line, I put them in a sequence that was 1440 x 1080 and pixel ratio HD (1440x1080)....not 'SQUARE' as I believe is correct for 1920 x 1080.

So I am now trying to export the entire sequence as 1920 x 1080 and of course, I can't. I tried creating a new sequence with 1920x1080 settings and when I bring the clips in, it's still reading them as 1440....so it morphs the ratio.

I've spent hours and hours putting this sequence together and I hope the fix is easier than I think...

You were on the right track by creating a new sequence and copy/pasting the clips in. The final step is to highlight all the clips in the new sequence, right click, "remove attributes", selection "Distort" & "Basic Motion", hit okay and your 1920x1080 clips will be displayed in their native size and aspect ratio.

Ahhhhhh, thank you! You're a lifesaver. May I ask one final question? Ultimately, these need to be exported as 1920x1080, AppleProRes422 (HQ) -- sending these to some German TV station and that's how they want them. However, my clips are in different formats (GoPro, H264, etc.) I didn't convert everything to ProRes422 in Streamclip first, I just imported them because I was working off a different project. In any case, I know ideally I should convert bc Final Cut handles ProRes422 clips better. However, I already have everything in the sequence, now I just need to export.

In my Sequence settings, I have it set to 1920x1080, with the compressor set as Apple ProRes422 (HQ). If I do Export >>> Quicktime Movie >>> Current Settings, will it export the string of clips to Apple ProRes422 (HQ) or will it read each individual clip's native format?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, just a bit confused and fearful I won't do this correctly.

[John Sinclair] "In my Sequence settings, I have it set to 1920x1080, with the compressor set as Apple ProRes422 (HQ). If I do Export >>> Quicktime Movie >>> Current Settings, will it export the string of clips to Apple ProRes422 (HQ) or will it read each individual clip's native format?"

Doing that will give you a ProRes HQ QT file. Using QT Movie (make sure the "make self contained" box is checked) will create a QT file that matches the codec the sequence is set to (in this case ProRes HQ).
