Is there a way to batch process field dominance issues?
on Jul 23, 2012 at 10:27:57 pm

We make a weekly half hour tv programme, and part of that is a collection of clips from our archive, over bits of script (OOVs, to use the jargon).

When our finished programme makes it to London and gets quality controlled, there are fairly frequently CRT flickering issues, because some of the pictures have the wrong field dominance (upper or lower, I forget which).

I'm a bit of a noob to field dominance issues, but my question is whether there is a way to batch process our entire library of footage (probably only about 500 gigs or so), and work out which field is dominant, then flick it to being the right way around, so we don't have to watch the programme twice before we file each week?

Thanks so much in advance, and apologies if this is an issue I should have found answers to, or asked questions about, elsewhere on CC. I'm not clear exactly where it should go.

Is this only on still frames?

No, it's moving images.

PAL?

If so, DV is upper, all others are lower. Are you mixing dv and other codecs?

In PAL (25 fps) all codecs are upper except DV which is lower. FCP7 should automatically apply the shift field filter to any DV footage.

What is your archive footage and the modern footage you are intercutting? And what version of FCP are you using?

Sorry, I had my field orders reversed.

Dv is lower, all others upper for pal.

Apologies.
