Editing format & Sequence Setting Questions
on Jul 23, 2012 at 12:02:58 am

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie to FCP and a newbie to digital formats and codecs.

I would like to edit together some shots i took this weekend and I used a Panasonic HDC-sd40 camcorder.

Below I have included a screen shot of what my clip properties are:

From the research I have done, the H.264 format is not a very editable format.

First question, what format should I convert it to and how? Can i use compressor, hand break, or another program that is better?

Second question, to avoid having to render, compress, or convert my h.264 clips to save me a ton of time, what should my sequence settings vein FCP?

Below is a screenshot of what my sequence settings currently are:

I want to maintain the full HD quality that i recorded in, but want to be able to edit clips without and transition glitches as well, or lose quality in the exporting process.

I also want to keep this as time friendly as possible too. I know rendering, compressing, and converting clips can take a while so whatever way is fastest and most efficient, is more desirable for me.

Thank you for your help!!!!
