Import Canon C300 in FCP 7

Hi guys,

I'm editing a documentary in FCP 7 with footage coming from different sources: HDV, XDCAM EX, GoPro files, AVCHD files... I've been using different apps in order to convert everything in Apple ProRes 422.

Now I need to import footage from the new Canon C300.

Do you know HOW this can be done in the proper way?

I downloaded the plugin on Canon website that let me use the LOG&TRANSFER window in FCP, but I got files with audio sync problems.

Are there alternatives for import MXF files from Canon C300 in FCP 7?

Thank you from Rome!

Go to the Log and Transfer prefs and uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN. Try again. IF that doesn't work...hmmmm.

Alternatives for MXF import...Calibrated MXF will do it. But all the files will come in as they are...non-spanned. So separate if you have long takes. There is also Raylight and MXF4MAc.

Actually for this conversion

I used the XDCAM TRANSFER boundled app (which gave me files with sync issues).

Log&Transfer was my first choice but I kept getting the ┬źUnsupported media or invalid directory structure┬╗ error message, that's why I used the XDCAM TRANSFER app.

I will try all the options you mention, thank you!
(and I WILL read your blog)

[Glory Amier] " MXF file is nor supported by final cut pro 7, if you want to import the mxf file into fcp7, you should convert the video with a mxf converter for mac."

NO need for that. FCP imports MXF just fine via Log and Transfer. And adds other useful information like TIMECODE and REEL NUMBER, and if you lose the media for any reason, the ability to BATCH CAPTURE it and rebuild the project automatically.

Just a note to say I've flagged the post from "Matty Smith" above. Spam replies and Google SEO is clogging up the internet with rubbish information about needing MXF converters to deal with this footage (and for many other Sony Cameras). It's plain spam, wrong and very annoying.

I hope someone from the Cow will take the time to remove it.

Thanks Ben. These posts have been cropping up a LOT, and I catch most of them (seeing that I answer a lot of them and get the email notifications), but some slip through.

Hi,
I've tried to import c300 mxf files through log and transfer but no luck.
I've downloaded the linked driver from previous posts, still getting 'contains unsupported media...invalid directory structure...' any ideas? Thanks

It is all about folder structure with C300 log and transfering, put your clips into a folder entitled "CONTENTS" and everything will be fine

I also used XDCam Transfer to convert the canon 300's MXF files to MOVs for FCP. But like a fool, I pulled it straight from the card and didn't create a back-up so can't get the original footage back.
And I've also now got files with audio trouble. The audio just stops 2/3s of the way into the clip.
I was wondering if you'd ever figured out a way to repair your files audio?
Thanks
