Thunderbolt -> HDMI monitoring.

Hi All,

Just wondering if the Thunderbolt to HDMI cable from Apple would allow a MacBookPro to monitor video and check for interlacing issues etc.

Cheers,
Stephen

No. It will send out a computer video signal...not a broadcast video signal. Different signal type. Computer signal doesn't show interlacing. It'd be like converting DVI to HDMI.

You will have to wait for the AJA T-Tap that will take a Thunberbolt out of of port to SDI/HDMI video monitor. That will be a Video signal. When it ships, I never want to hear or see another editor complain that they can't afford to monitor their video properly. You still have to buy the HDMI or HD-SDI compatible monitor.

Amen to that Steve - shame it won't happen. I still recall training at a UK sports-based TV channel that had NO video monitors in 4 FCP suites. The material and channel output were interlaced. Oh dear...

Actually Steve, wouldnt BlackMagic's Intensity work?

I'm genuinely curious. I'm about to pull the trigger on the following purchase:

New Apple Macbook Pro (Non Retina, since I like to be able to connect my firewire drives :) ) 15"

Along with the above mentioned blackmagic box. I figure from thunderbolt to hdmi, should put out a beautiful broadcast signal, right?
