Narrative feature - Final Cut audio timeline layout
on Jun 26, 2012 at 12:02:58 pm

Hi there,

I`ve been starting to move up to being assistant editor on narrative features using 8 channels of production sound running at a time. (Past experience is primarily in documentaries).

For those with prior experience, when working with a larger amount of tracks in a narrative Final Cut timeline, how do you tend to organize your audio tracks?

I had been thinking of this sort of layout:

A1 – A16 = (Production sound tracks, A9 - A16 for dialogue overlaps)

A17 – A24 = (Room Tone. Lower this track amount to four?)

A25 – A30 = (temp SFX, gun shots, explosions, voiceovers, etc)

A30 – A34 = (Music)

If anyone had any suggestions, or could give me an outline of how they layout their audio tracks in Final Cut for narrative work, I`d really appreciate it.
