How best to convert h264 files from Nikon camera into pro res for FCP 7?

Hi

Client has 60 shots and interviews shot on a new NIkon camera 1920x1080p h264 codec...how to use FCP 7.0.3 (or Compressor) to batch these files into pro res 422 .mov's for editing...and he needs to give a transcription service all the audio as well from these files...how best to convert these into usable, small files for transcription?

Thanks

K

So you just need low-res versions of your interviews for transcription purposes only? I would just take you H.264s and reduce the frame size and output H.264s. Then, at the same time, you can export Apple ProRes 422 HQ files for editing. That way, everything matches.

In addition to the audio for transcription I need all 60 shots/I/V's as well ful frame to edit - but FCP 7 won't play well with h264's so I want to convert all quickly to pro res 422 - I know Canon 5D, etc has a software for this but can't find equivalent for Nikon D4 camera - is this any good?

As Jessica said, use Compressor for BOTH tasks. Use it to make the smaller QT files (with BURNED IN TIMECODE! There's a filter for that in Compressor)...and also the ProRes files.

Thanks for replies - I did tell client to use Compressor but he said he's heard it takes way too long - but I will try it myself -

has anyone good experience with this as well" http://www.pavtube.com/hd-video-converter-mac/

You can use mpeg streamclip.
