MXF / P2 log and transfer error
on Jun 19, 2012 at 11:02:22 pm

Hey folks,

We are logging a bunch of MXF footage from down loaded P2 cards.

We have one P2 card were everything is logging and transferring just fine except for one clip.

When we add clip to Queue, we get the little red stop sign under status that says error unknown.

We can find the clip on the hard drive in the P2 card download folder and it does play, it just wont log and transfer.

Any ideas..

Hey Shane,

Playing it with Calibrated MXF import,

Did some search, seems that their is a long history of this problem and no known solutions.

I'm not sure if this applies...

But was it a clip that started on one P2 card then switched to the other card before you finished the shot?

Also did you try logging and transferring from the camera and also from your computers hard drive after you transferred the footage?

Chris, it was a download from P2 to hard drive folder. It has been on the Hard drives from last fall.

The bad file was right in the middle of a bunch of clips that did transfer all from the same folder.

It would be nice if there was a certified cure.

Calibrated will do the job. It is just my gal likes to use Log and Transfer to break down the clips.

Problem solved. You have Calibrated. Just bring the MXF files right in

I guess some P2 mxf file type is a compressed output format and not an ideal editing format. And you can read this article about MXF files, and the article tell you about the mxf FAQ.

Is there an 'ideal' editing format?

Our P2 MXF footage is way easier than our old Betacam SP.

It is very consistent, the machine does not hang up as often and the edits are generally easier to do.

But then again, I have never tried to edit HD P2 MXF footage on my old G4 Cinewave either.

The clients love the image and the pay is steady. And a ROI is possible on the gear.

Two HPX500's, one HPX170 and one HVX200 plus two Mac Pro desk tops and a couple laptops.

Considering we are documenting Gov't Professional Development and putting it on the web, MXF is the perfect format to get it done.
