Final Cut Pro Log and Transfer AVCHD

Hello,

I'm having trouble logging and transferring hour long clips of AVCHD footage (shot with Panasonic AG-HMC40P). I'm not scrubbing thru the clips. I just drag the whole entire clip and leave alone. Couple of minutes pass by and it stops. I used different computers and the same thing happens. Please help!

Are you using the log&Transfer option, or just importing the clips?

Hello Rafael,

I'm using the Log and Transfer option. I open the open the card and select the clips and I add them to the que.. The arrow starts to circle but it stops and an exclamation point takes it's place. Then nothing happens. I try to restart the transfer on the clip. Nothing happens. I usually delete the que and start all over. Same thing happens. So I tried just one clip then two but the long ones don't transfer.

To what codec are you transcoding when you log & transfer? Native AVCHD gives FCP a lot of trouble and shouldn't be used for editing. Stick with good ol' ProRes 422.

Google the PANASONIC AVCCAM Importer.
Is a QT Component that should let you cut the .MTS files in FC without transcoding.

Hello Dave,

I log and transfer AVCHD to ProRes 422. Can Premiere handle this code?

I've often experienced issues with long AVCHD clips.
A solution could be to use clip wrapper to rewrap the AVCHD to h264, and then transcode it to prores.

[Tina Hedegaard] "A solution could be to use clip wrapper to rewrap the AVCHD to h264, and then transcode it to prores."

That's an extra step - ClipWrap will transcode to ProRes without rewrapping first. ClipWrap also joins selected clips.

Oh yes I forgot that clip wrapper got that feature. Thanks for the reminder.
I normally use clip wrapper with avid 5.5.3 and AVCHD

Get the QT Component I've told you and you won't need to waist time rewrapping nothing.
FC does everything.

Monica, if you haven't solve your problem here is your solution. You can't drag and drop the files. You need to open log and transfer, then open the drop down menu in the window and use the "add a custom path" item to direct it to the card and to the "PRIVATE" folder. The will load all of the clips into the log and transfer window.
