I'm editing a project in FCP 6 and I'm encountering the playback issues (stuttering, dropped frames) familiar to many.
I've been working on this project for two weeks now on the same external hard drive and didn't have any problems until yesterday. The material will only play for a few seconds, then the video freezes and the audio stutters. I have been browsing for solutions, but haven't found anything that does the trick.
Final Cut Pro 6.0.6
Videostreams: 1-2 (problems also occur when only one video track is used)
Working with Canon 7D material converted to ProRes 422 (HQ).
1920 x 1080, 25p.
External WD hard drive 2TB (17 GB left)
I've already tried trashing prefs, switching RT from 'Unlimited' to 'Safe' and back, turning on 'Play Base Layer Only' and turning Video Quality to medium. Also turned off 'Mirror on Desktop' in the A/V Devices tab.
Your hard drive is too full. The fuller the drives get, the slower they get. The rule of thumb is that you need to leave 10% of the drive empty. In the case of the 2TB drive, you need to have 200GB available on it.
