60p into 24p timeline
on May 25, 2012 at 2:23:28 am

1. I have a project that is set on a 24p 1080p timeline.

2. I shot some footage from a moving car at 60p 720p.

I'd like to bring this footage into the project while achieving the 24p film look. My first attempt, I up converted the footage to 1080 and simply dropped it on the timeline. It still looked very much like video. Then I tried to slow down that same footage and it became a bit laggy.

My Question: What is the best rout to go. If I have to slow down the footage that is fine. Basically I want this footage to look as much like 24p as possible while not looking laggy, I assume I have to slow it down in order to that?

Not sure how to do it in FCP, but the general trick is to trash half the frames, then you have 30P. (actually 23.976)
Next step is to slow that than to 24P.
AE can do this, (perhaps in two steps), interpret footage and put it in a timeline (again, perhaps first 59.94 to 29.97, then 29.97 to 23.976)
So yes, you have a bit of slomo, and yes, it will stil look like video,
as the shutter speed is way higher at 60, so there will be way less motion blur.
