Trying to make a PAL dvd
on May 17, 2012 at 5:52:11 am

Okay, so I have a festival in Australia that needs a DVD of my short film. my sequence settings are 1440x1080 HD (16:9) Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 23.98fps

My sound mixer is giving me two copies of the final audio mix, an NTSC version and a PAL version.

What do I do to ensure I make a HQ PAL DVD? What are the steps I should take?

Thank you.

hmm.
There is no Pal and NTSC sound...
I take it your sound guy has speeded up the sound from 23.976 to 25.
Check the sound durations. If the "PAL" version is about 4% shorter, this is what he intended.
In that case, export your movie into one large QT, use Cinematools to conform the speed to 25, and you are at PAL speed (with a shorter movie).
Next, add the altered sound and make your DVD. (You need to downscale to 720x576 and flag it as anamorph, pretty sure Compressor can do this)
This is the highest quality you will get, and it's the fastest procedure as well.

But if this is for an approaval screening and not projection, just send an NTSC disc, as everyone will be able to play it.
