How does one rid oneself of QTX?

I have an acquaintance who wants to get rid of QTX and go with QT7. He's on OS 10.6.8.

I'm not allowed to alter my FCP machine in any way by order of the tech guys, and they're the system administrators. I plain don't know how.

Is there a prescribed procedure? I couldn't find one.

I zip/archive the application. Then delete the other from the system. That way, the machine is forced to use QT 7. The other one is there...but zipped. In case they want it back.

Or do a get info on a .mov. Then choose open with: Quicktime Player 7 and select change all. That way QT X is still on the system, but Quicktime 7 opens the files.

Yeap.
I would rather set QT.7 as the default app for QT supported stuff than trying to get rid of QTX.

Archiving QT seems odd. It's going to be an old version by the time you dig it back up. It's always downloadable.
