Does the playback video quality setting affect the renders or final output?
on Mar 8, 2012 at 3:00:16 pm

I've been playing with a few settings recently in an attempt to get better performance, and I noticed that when I set my playback video quality on Medium rather than High or Dynamic, clips that usually have an orange render-indicator (whilst using unlimited RT) go back to being green. (Usually, after a few iterations of CC-3 way and/or desaturate highlights filters, etc., they have the orange render-indicator.)

What I'm wondering is, will having the playback setting at a lower quality affect the renders or final output?
(output method: export self contained quicktime file at "current setting")

My settings:

iMac quad-core. Snow Leopard 10.6.7. FCP 7.0.3. G-Raid 6TB via FW800.
All footage transcoded to ProRes LT. 1080p. 23.976fps

Changing realtime settings only affects playback. The sequence settings impact the output of a self contained QT export, as the resulting file will be identical to the seq. settings if you leave "current settings" selected.

Thanks David. Always nice to have my suspicions confirmed by the experts.
