Please help I need to get an external hard drive for my desktop but which is the best for video editing in FCPX . I heard about a seagate 3TB with a firewire cable but what does that mean or do i use a USB cable what is better . Very confused.com any help would be greatly appreciated from a newbie. Thank you.

For smooth video playback, broadly speaking, the faster your hard drives the better.
USB is not really up to video playback. Firewire 800 with 7200 rpm drives is about the minimum spec you should go for.

best wishes

There's no best. But do get 7200RPM/FW800. I use and like the G-drive 750G mini-drive http://www.ecost.com/p/G-Technology-Hard-Drives/product~dpno~8814891~pdp.gi...

Another is LaCie rugged triple portable but the portable only goes to 500Gb/7200RPM. Careful: always verify its 7200RPM
