3d subtitles

How does one create subtitles (in .srt format)?

We are creating a DCP and need to put the subtitles down in srt form.

The next issue is that this is a 3d film, so we'd need those subtitles in 3d as well.

As of right now the editor has subtitled the film in FCP using a text "filter".

I can help you with the .srt part but not the 3D part.

i used a subtitle tool on a clients machine a few weeks ago which could do various formats including .srt

I have just found a link here
and discovered it is freeware with a suggested donation.

Best check the 3D part but if they have requested a .srt file then that is really just a specific text format layout that they would recreate the subtitles from so you may not need to do anymore.
Essentially its just a list of timecode ins and outs and the text required. So you can use the titles created by your editor as a guide.

best wishes

Subbits can import text from FCP XML, and export to SRT
(and a lot of other formats)

But for DCP, i think you need a DCP compatible XML that adds the subs during projection.
SRT smell like someone is going to burn them in using FFmpeg or alike...

smart tools for video pros
