washed out image when importing TIFF sequence into FCP
on Feb 15, 2012 at 5:13:14 am

The company I work for just got Scratch 6.1 for coloring purposes. When we check de colorization final render it looks great. We export this as a TIFF sequence 16 bit, but when we import this sequence into FCP it losses it's quality, color saturation and looks washed out. We heard FCP only worked with a 2.2 Gamma, so we changed our settings in Scratch from Gamma 1 to Gamma 2.2 and still the same result, just a little bit better. We've tried bringing it into AE, export it as a quicktime, but once again when importing it into FCP it looks like a tenth generation vhs. Any ideas what may be wrong?

Why not export as quicktime from Scratch? I also don't think FCP can handle 16 bit TIFFs.

REC709 is 2.2 gamma so if this is for broadcast then Scratch should be working in that gamma.

Image sequence exports from FCP isn't not recommended. You will get affected or degraded image quality.

[Michael Gissing] "I also don't think FCP can handle 16 bit TIFFs. "
Right.
FC will manage it as 8bRGB.
