M4V Render time

Hey, I'm not very knowledgeable about file formats and codec etc. But I have a bunch of M4V files I need to use in Final Cut to make a video however these files seem to slow the whole program down and when I go to render 5 minutes worth, the render time is 7 hours so I basically can't work with these files. I've spent ages trying to find ways to convert the files to MP4 or AVI which I know work fine but have had no luck.

Can anyone help me in either converting the files or making the M4V files easier to use in FCP with less render time??

Thanks for any help!

Gotta convert them to ProRes...if they are HD. DV/NTSC if they are SD. FCP doesn't work with M4V, MP4 or AVI. Look in the Easy Setup list for a full list of formats FCP works with.

If you want to edit formats without converting, you need to look at Adobe Premiere.
