UNLESS YOU WANT FCP TO BEHAVE BADLY, DO NOT INSTALL OVER THE TOP OF FCS2
Without question, before doing anything else, first clone your current system drive to a spare erased firewire drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
Then, test the clone to make certain it boots.
Next, while booted to the bootable clone, erase the system drive with Disk Utility.
Now, get a copy of Snow Leopard, install it on the erased system drive (if you can't get SL then stick with Leopard).
Run Software Update over and over until the OS tells you it's Up To Date.
Install FCS3.
Run Software Update over and over until it says all software is Up to Date.
Now, go get creative.
