Issue with Easy Setup for AVCCAM AG AC160
on Jan 12, 2012 at 3:43:10 pm

Hi guys,

I recently purchased the new Pansonic AG AC160 and am I am trying to figure out the best set up in Final Cut Pro 6 for the footage that I am shooting.

I am currently shooting in PH 1080 30P. My setup right now is:

I am running into an error message however when I try to render the footage...I get an error message stating "Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."

What I am trying to figure out is if my set up is right and if not, what should I change?

Also, how should I compress/export to get the best quality?

Thank you for you help I truly appreciate it.

-Nick

Hi Nick,
That's a video camera, so normally should shot 29,98.

If you don't have it, download the PANASONIC AVCCAMImporter component to edit native, or Log&Transfer to convert to Prores.

Is AVCCAM Importer available for Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP6?)

And do you mean I should shoot in 29.98? (Isn't that what 30 is?) I want to know how to set up the footage in FCP and how I should export it...

By using Log and transfer, there is no need to use Easy Setup. Drop transcoded clip in timeline and let FCP figure it out. Select yes when asked.

I'm afraid not.
This is the PANA URL:

Right.
L&T will find out the real time-base of the footage and FC will conform the sequence.
When you have your prores files, have a look to the Browser info.
You will see 29,98fps.

When video cameras are saying 30p, they really means 29,98p. that's the standard for video.
Different is when dealing with some DSLRs camera (canon) that are shooting real p30.

FCP6 is too old. 1080 30P AVCHD is not a good editing format for FCP 6. I advice you to upgrade to FCP 7 or FCPX.
