How to change media on the timeline
on Jan 7, 2012 at 6:38:57 pm

Hello

I have made a timeline with lots of picture, I've set the pictures to music and key framed a lot of them to come in at different times and do different things, I've also added filters to a lot of them. There are about 5 pictures that I need to replace with new pictures, how do I do this?

At the moment when I try and replace the original picture it just drops the new picture on top of it without any of the attributes which means I have to go through and add all the changes again which is very time consuming. Is there a way I can just replace the old picture with a new one keeping all the keyframes and changes I have made to the original?

Thanks very much for your help

Mich

Copy the clip in the sequence, then replace the edit. After that, right click on the clip, and choose "Paste attributes" from the window that will open. Paste filters or whatever from that window.

Reading up on Replace Edit will help you with exact steps. F11 shortcut. In/Out points and where your playhead is makes a difference. That's under Help Tab.

Another thought is to Reconnect the clip in your timeline to the new image on your drive. This is fast, but won't change the timeline clip's labeled name. Both approaches may need to be tweaked if the new image is a different size than the original one.

Highlight the NEW photo in the bin. Press cmd+c to copy it. Highlight the OLD clip in the sequence. Right click and choose paste attributes. Select "content."

Shudda thought of that one myself. That's likely the best with stills for sure.

If you have keyframes though, it's always hit and miss. Never seem to know where the keyframes are gonna wind up. I think with paste content they should stay put. As I've said for 12 years maybe they'll fix keyframes in version 2, er, 3, 4?, 5 for sure, uh 6? 7, 8?
