ProRes for Film Workflow

Hey guys,

I'm pretty familiar with various ProRes workflows, ranging from dslr to film transfers, etc. But here's the questions:
We're working with 35mm footage tranferred to proRes 444. The final film is black and white, as is most of the source footage. After composites, is there any quality gain when exporting 444 instead of 422 for a final finish? I assume that 444 would be good for stuff shot in color that still needs to be graded before desaturation? And what is the difference between exporting 444 and exporting 422 with the 444 color box checked?

Thanks!

-Brendon

Right.
Making the film in B&W is not just about desaturating. Color playes an important role to get a nice B&W, however I think 422 should be enough to get a good B&W in post.
